1. Tees Transporter Bridge

Tees Transporter Bridge is the famous landmark of Middlesbrough since it opened in 1911 and is the longest working transporter bridge in the world. It is also an iconic symbol of Teesside’s engineering and industrial heritage.

The bridge has an important role in Middlesbrough’s history for over a century and provides an important and unique crossing over the River Tees. In the past few years, the bridge has been a popular historic visitor attraction and is one of England’s major sites for extreme outdoor sports including abseils, bungee jumps and zip-slides.

Tees Transporter Bridge has also been given a lottery fund, to help build and restore the bridge. This upgrade included a glass viewing lift, gondola and work towards state of the art visitor resources.

2. Dorman Museum

Dorman Museum was officially opened in July 1904, by the Colonel in Chief of the Yorkshire Regiment, named as the Dorman Memorial Museum. The museum is part of Middlesbrough Council’s ‘Museums Service’ along with its sister venue, the Captain Cook Birthplace Museum which is situated in Stewart Park.

4. RSPB Saltholme

A visit to RSPB Saltholme starts with entry to the stunning visitor centre, which offers a wider reserve just waiting to be explored outside. If you want to get close to nature, there are four wildlife viewing hides, including viewing screens and galleries in the visitor centre.

If you fancy an active day out, there is a cycle route along part of the reserve, which connects to the wider cycleway network of Stockton and Middlesbrough. It’s a great place to visit from early spring to mid-summer, when all the plants and flowers blooming full of colour. It is also close to the centre of Middlesbrough, making it a great place to visit and get around.

5. Stewart Park

Stewart Park is a 120 acre park in Marton, in the south of Middlesbrough which offers beautiful woodland, full of nature. There are also two lakes and open parkland to discover.

If you are visiting with family, they will love pet’s corner, which is home to many types of animals such as deer, cattle, llamas and goats. There is so much nature and heritage to discover, as well as tree trails within the park.

Captain Cook Museum use to situate where Stewart Park is, but all traces of the building have now gone and the open space and parkland is left for visitors to explore.
