Llandudno is a traditional British seaside resort, in the heart of North Wales. It known for its beautiful beach and 19th century Llandudno Pier. There is so much to explore in Llandudno. Why not spend a day at the beach or take a trip out using the Great Orme Cable Car!

 

1. Great Orme Cable Car

Great Orme Cable Car from the Happy Valley to the Great Orme Summit is at over one mile each way and is the longest Aerial Cabin Lift in the United Kingdom. The cable car was first built in 1969 and fully restored in 2006.

It is a great place to visit with friends or family, where you can get the best views of Anglesey, Puffin Island and the mountains of Snowdonia. The cable car is around 2 miles long and sits 4 people, with the station situated on the lower hills above the Happy Valley. The cable car station is reached by the paths round either side of the building.

You can get a return ticket, but if you feel more adventurous, why not explore the walks over Great Orme with many nature trails historic remains.

2. Great Orme Copper Mine

Great Orme Copper Mine was discovered back in 1987, during a local government scheme to landscape the area of Great Orme. The secret mines were uncovered below the grounds and are one of the most amazing archaeological discoveries of most recent times. The mines date back from 4,000 years to the Bronze Age and their unique society some 2,000 years before even the Romans invaded.

Ove the recent decades, engineers, mining engineers, and archaeologists have been slowly and surely discovering many more tunnels, as well as restoring large areas of the landscape to find out what’s now believed to be the biggest Prehistoric mine, discovered in the whole world!

There is so much to discover and learn about at the Great Orme Copper Mine, where you can watch traditional methods of working the copper at the smelting shelter. Tours can take around 60 minutes and are 35 steps – so make sure you feel energetic before visiting!

3. Great Orme Tramway

Great Orme Tramway is a beautiful tramway in Llandudno, north Wales. It is open seasonally, from late March to Late October and is popular with locals and visitors. The tram takes over 200,000 passengers each year from Llandudno Victoria Station to just below the Great Orme headland. The railway has been known as the Great Orme Railway since 1932, reverting to its original name in 1977.

The Great Orme Tramway is England’s only cable-hauled public road tramway and has been entertaining visitors from all around the world, since 1902. The tram takes you up the Great Orme Country Park and Nature Reserve, where you can explore and enjoy the nature. It then climbs to the Halfway Station exhibition, where you can discover the history of Victoria engineering. Why not change trams halfway and carry on your adventure to the Summit where the panoramic views are spectacular!

If it’s a clear and bright day, you will be able to see the Isle of Man, Blackpool and the Lake District – something you don’t see every day! If you plan on going to Llandudno, the Great Orme Tramway is definitely worth a visit!

4. Llandudno Pier

Llandudno Pier is in the heart of the seaside town, Llandudno and on the coast of North wales between Bangor and Colwyn Bay. The pier is 2,295 feet, which makes it the longest pier in Wales and the fifth longest in England and Wales.

Llandudno Beach has a great amount of sand, where you can take a relaxing stroll down the beach with the family. It is a great place to swim, but there is no lifeguard cover.

It is close to the Victorian Pier, which is a popular tourist attraction and is the longest pier in Wales. There are many donkey and pony rides in Llandudno, so if your children love animals, why not book a ride along the beach? Why not explore the beach and watch Punch and Judy?  - It makes the perfect sea side day out, which the kids will love!

Welsh Mountain Zoo is in the heart of Colwyn Bay, on the north coast of Wales, which has stunning scenery that overlooks the Irish Sea. The zoo has a range of animals, making it the perfect day out with the kids. The Welsh Mountain Zoo is also an education and conservation charity, which is home to various endangers species – from bears to sea lions, spiders to snow leopards.

There are beautiful gardens around the zoo, which are full of local and tropical plants offering an amazing background of colour.

Bodafon Farm Park is a working Welsh farm, which is close to the beach in beautiful Llandudno. You will be able to meet and feed the animals such as ducks, rabbits, donkeys, goats and much more – kids will love it!
